You Listen to Your Child’s Story but Who Listens to Yours?

Support and therapy for adoptive parents - not just the child - because your mental health matters too

Adoption doesn’t just change your child’s life. It changes yours too. And your experience matters.

I work with adoptive parents experiencing psychological distress for various reasons. Parents who want to understand where they are, why they are struggling and how to move forward.

Common problems adoptive parents come to therapy for are anxiety, burnout, compassion fatigue, post adoption depression, excessive worry, overthinking and their experience of feelings such as grief or shame.

Whatever brings you to therapy, I am here for you to feel supported, not blamed. I help you make sense of your experiences and how they have shaped you and your life, so you can move forward with clarity and confidence.

Feeling struggle doesn’t mean you are failing

It just means you’re human in an incredibly complex role. Becoming an adoptive parent changes what “normal” looks like, and that’s okay. Adoption training helps, but it can’t fully prepare you for the real, lived experience of adoption.

Finding yourself here now means that you have the self awareness to know you need some support and the courage to find it.

You found your way here — welcome

Join my newsletter for adoptive parents where every week I’ll drop into your inbox with something helpful for you — a reflection, a small resource, or just a reminder that your experience is valid and you’re not on your own in it.

“Becoming an adoptive parent can bring more than just positive new experiences — it can also awaken old stories, fears, and challenges you didn’t anticipate.”

Hi, I’m Sophie

A CBT and EMDR Therapist based in the North West of England, providing support for adoptive parents.

I have a deep belief in the importance of taking time to understand your struggles with compassion and kindness.

Understanding why you think, feel and behave the way you do, from this perspective, will give you the clarity to see why your difficulties are there and provide you with the steps you need for change.

Steps to less self doubt, less self criticism, less self blame. And steps to more confidence, more healing and more of the best version of you.

Together, we’ll explore the past and the present, uncovering how past patterns and present coping strategies are shaping how you feel today.

Here, you can speak openly and without fear or holding back, so you can experience more peace, more energy and a stronger belief in yourself.

How we can work together

Using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and EMDR Therapy, I support you in understanding your own story - with compassion - so you can move from stress and struggle to greater self confidence and strength.

The best place to start is here and now.
